Welcome back, friend!
One thing we hear so much about these days is how hard it can be to keep your home clean. It might be because so many of us are leading such busy lives that our home sometimes falls by the wayside. As a working mom of three, I’d like to share some house keeping tips and hacks I’ve learned over the years that have been life-changing. I know these tips will be helpful to you too!
This blog post is all about House Keeping Tips.
Helpful House Keeping Tips
I know you don’t have much time, so let’s jump right into it.
1. Make a plan!
Making a list of those things that need to be done and then prioritizing by the level of importance to you will help to declutter your mind and get things down on paper so you can make a great plan to clean your space. I like to create what I call ‘the alphabet list.’
A). As soon as possible (urgent) B).By this date (enter dead line) D. Delegate (“get somebody else to do it”) and E)Eliminate: These ideas are outlined in The 7 Seven Habits of Highly Effective People
The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People is a great read (or listen). It has been helpful in many areas of my life.

Once you get your to-do down, map out a plan to start the tasks. For example, every Monday evening is for dusting, Saturday is for catching up on laundry and from 6am-7am each morning you’ll clean a new space… you get the point.
Also, don’t tackle too much too soon. Start small; one room, one closet, one drawer.
2. Consolidate your cleaning supplies
This is one of my favorite house keeping tips and has been a game changer! Instead of running all over the house looking for your cleaning supplies, keep them stored in one central location. For years I’ve used a cleaning caddy to store my cleaning supplies. I have three floors in my house so I like to keep one on each floor. It’s keeps me from having to make so many unnecessary trips up and down the stairs. But if having only one (1) makes sense for you then by all means you do what works for you!
I’ve added some popular bins/caddies that are cute, useful, and won’t break the bank.

3. Make your bed daily
Not sure if this was pushed more by mom or the fact that I spent over 10years on Active Duty Army. Either way, this is something that is in my DNA. Making your bed everyday… or at least as often as you can, gives you the extra momentum you need to feel a sense of accomplishment first thing in the morning. And after a long day of working or cleaning your home, it is a welcoming retreat at the end of your day. Apparently there a science behind it as well. One of my favorite books to read is Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life.
It’s a short book but very inspiring and motivating. I’ve included the link here.

Nothing says keep your room clean like beautiful bedding. I’ve added some of my favorite pieces below that are cute and affordable.
This first one is a bit weighty so if like a heavy cover this is perfect and the detailing is ‘chef’s kiss’. I also love this detailing. This particular bedding comes in so many cute colors.
If you like a lighter feel, this comforter set is perfect. I’ve ordered this one for my primary and guest room. It’s definitely a favorite. It gives a high end look with an affordable price.
Now this, hands down, is one of the best investments I’ve purchased for bedding. I used to get a cheaper pillow but it would often lose it’s shape within a few months and I’d be on the hunt for more in no time. What I spent in a year replacing pillows is far more expensive than this one time purchase. So instead, I made the investment in the Coop Home Good Pillow and I’ve NOT been disappointed.

4. Declutter
Ever heard the saying, “Can’t see the forrest for the trees.”? Meaning you have so much stuff you can’t see what you actually have. This should have been number one in the list of house keeping tips. Before you can clean anything… I mean really clean. You must declutter. Those things that are broken, missing pieces, you don’t love or need- get rid of them. If things no longer serve a purpose then sale, donate or throw away. We don’t need that kind of negativity anyway! Many people, including myself, find the act of decluttering their space therapeutic.
Decluttering will allow you see your space better and it will appear much cleaner even when it’s not. A plus it can make room for things you really love.
5. Give Yourself Grace
In a world were it seems everything has to be perfect, know that it is not all perfect nor does it have to be. Remember that the curated spaces you see online are not real. Just beautiful pictures to look at. Give yourself permission to take breaks and be kind to YOU. Be proud of your home, just how it is and change/clean what you can when you can. Accept yourself and your home just as it is.
